002. A trust fall with eternal stakes
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. — Proverbs 3:5-6
To fully trust in God is to remove oneself from all outcomes— not only believing, but knowing that God’s plan outlandishly trumps our own ideals.
C.S. Lewis writes, “It is better to forget about yourself altogether.”
We not only get in our own way, but God’s way, through our self-centeredness and self-identity. We crave to be our own creation, our own god. Our sense of self limits who God intended us to be. Instead of walking in obedience, we walk foolishly toward the desires of flesh.
We are corruptible.
There is only one who isn’t subject to corruption and he died on a tree over 2000 years ago.
Though we will never meet the standard that was laid out for us, we must aspire to it.
Not for our own ability to earn Christ’s favor, but for his glory.
Maybe that is the art of living.
